Marvel's Wolverine: Release Date & What to Expect

Last updated: July 2026

Insomniac finally cut to the chase, literally, announcing Wolverine's release date in a six-second video with no gameplay attached. Here's everything actually confirmed since.

Release date and price

September 15, 2026, exclusively on PS5. No PS4 version. Standard Edition is priced at $69.99 digitally on the PlayStation Store, with physical copies available at most major retailers alongside it. Pre-orders are already live following the June 2026 State of Play.

This is not another Spider-Man

Insomniac has been explicit that Wolverine is a deliberate tonal break from their Spider-Man games, heavier, grittier, built around brutal close-quarters combat rather than traversal and web-slinging spectacle. The story is original, not lifted from existing comic arcs, following Logan across Madripoor, the wilds of Canada, and Tokyo while he digs into his own fractured past. The June State of Play trailer confirmed Jean Grey and Sabretooth both appear, alongside Logan's old black-ops unit, Team X.

Why the pedigree matters

Insomniac built two of the better-reviewed PS5 exclusives of this generation before this, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Wolverine is the first entry in what's planned as a longer X-Men-focused run under Insomniac's Marvel deal with Sony. That track record is the reason expectations are high despite almost no gameplay having been shown publicly yet.

Timing, and what it means for the sale window

Landing in mid-September gives Wolverine roughly two clear months before GTA 6 absorbs all the attention in November, a smart scheduling choice by Sony. As a first-party PS5 exclusive, don't expect a real discount inside the first year, Sony's own titles rarely clear 30–40% off outside Days of Play or Black Friday. Wishlisting it now with a target price is the way to actually catch that moment rather than checking back for months.
