The Best PS5 Games of All Time
Last updated: July 2026
"Best ever" lists usually mean "best this month." This one is built off what PSNDeal actually tracks, OpenCritic and Metacritic scores that have held up for years, plus games people are still buying and finishing long after launch week ended.
The first-party heavyweights
Sony's own studios have produced most of this generation's genuine consensus picks. These are the games that show up on almost every serious list, not just PSNDeal's:
What actually separates these from a good exclusive is that they kept selling and kept getting recommended two and three years after launch, not just during their own hype cycle.
The ones that came from elsewhere
Not every generation-defining PS5 game was built for the PS5. Some are older titles that still hold up, or genre benchmarks from studios with no Sony affiliation at all:
Elden Ring is the one that changed what an open world is allowed to demand from a player. Red Dead Redemption 2 is still the game people point to when they argue a world can feel genuinely alive rather than just large. Bloodborne is a decade old and still gets brought up in the same breath as games releasing this year, which is its own kind of proof.
The one that's simply sold the most
Critical consensus is one measure. Raw reach is another, and nothing on PlayStation is close to this:
230 million copies across three console generations. Whatever list you build, GTA V's sales numbers sit in a different category from everything else on it, first-party included.
Where this list comes from
Every game above also shows up on PSNDeal's OpenCritic Top 10 or Metacritic Top 10, which update automatically as new reviews come in rather than staying frozen as a one-time opinion. That's a more honest source for "best ever" than a listicle written once and never revisited.
